Don't even think about converting it until you have read this book. -- HOME POWER, April/May 1994

If a booklet similar to yours had been around when my first gasoline car was converted to electric propulsion, the car would have been both easier to convert and more reliable. Your notes should be required reading for all members before starting construction. -- John B. Newell, past president, Electric Auto Association

This is a very readable and practical manual for the do-it-yourselfer. I heartily recommend this book for anyone who has ever contemplated such a project. -- Dr. W. Robert Kincheloe, Stanford University, Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering

We built Mr. Brown's car and we won. -- Bruce Burk, St. Johnsbury Academy, winner 1991 American Tour de Sol Open Class

4Convert it Review  Oct 03, 2008

I found this book very informative, easy to read , the pictures clear. Missing were wiring diagrams of battery connections. The high and low current diagrams were sufficient and easy to understand. The book was a bit slanted commercially only showing the authors products Over all I think the book was excellent and gave me a basic understanding of how to convert a gas car to electric.
Robert Shaver

5Convert It  Sep 07, 2008
Excellent book! Anyone wanting to convert a gas using vehicle to electric will benefit by reading this book. The warnings are especially helpful if you want to protect yourself from harm's way and avoid serious errors in tearing down and rebuilding your electric vehicle.

5Good Place to Start  Aug 16, 2008
Although some of the information presented in the 126-page volume is 15 or more years old, it is still a good place to start when considering an electric vehicle conversion. Mr. Brown does not disappoint with his clear and direct explanations and suggestions.
There is one small technical error concerning wire sizing. The National Electric Code (NEC) and Mil Spec W-5088L may be helpful, here.
Definitely worth the cost and time to read this book.

5Very Informative  May 22, 2008
This is a great book for the EV enthusiast. I was a little surprised that the pages of the book seem like xerox copies. But the quality of the information is very impressive.

4Good resource... needs updating  Apr 26, 2008
Very good introduction to EV conversions. Worth the price just for the practical tips and process information. Written in the early 90's, so it lacks information on newer motor systems (eschews AC because of complexity) and recent battery technology (lithium ion, etc.). It really could use and update... I'm sure there have been advances in the last 15 years. Mr. Brown is still offering workshops in EV conversion in Seattle and runs a conversion supply company (Electro Automotive). Interestingly he offers newer AC kits through his operation. If you're serious about converting to electric, this book is a good place to start.
