This book is an E-class buyer’s guide, maintenance handbook and technical reference source all wrapped into one. It is full of tech tips, service hints and system descriptions, plus lots of insightful information about the W124 E-Class chassis.

This E-Class Owner’s Bible™ can help steer you through the purchase of your first Mercedes-Benz, provide the information necessary to maintain your E-Class to factory standards, give you the assurance to speak knowledgeably to your service professional and provide you with the hot setup for better road handling.

The prospective buyer will also find tips on what to watch out for, why a pre-purchase inspection is important and why one model may be preferred to another. Do-it-yourself owners will discover a huge hands-on maintenance chapter to help keep their E-Class at peak efficiency.

To bring you this authoritative volume, Bentley Publishers has teamed up with Stu Ritter, a 25-year independent Mercedes-Benz repair shop owner/technician and current technical editor of The Star (the magazine of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America).

Features:

-Comprehensive maintenance procedures, including HVAC microfilter replacement, brake pad and rotor replacement and engine oil and fluid change procedures listing the necessary tools, tightening torques and fluid capacities.

- Year-by-year analysis of E-Class technical highlights, including the inspiring 500E sports sedan and when the multi-cam M104 engine replaced the M103 single cam workhorse.

- Buying tips on how to get the best car for the least amount of money, things to look for during the test-drive and how having a prepurchase inspection can potentially save you thousands of dollars.

- Seasoned advice on choosing the right repair shop, be it an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, an independent specialist or an all makes–all models shop.

- Detailed technical information on vehicle systems, including engines, suspension, drivetrain, body and interior features.

- Performance modifications, including a listing of all the parts needed to upgrade to the Sportline suspension.

1Pretty useless for the average owner  Sep 21, 2008
I have a 1989 300TE and had bought this book quite a few years back for reference information if anything went amiss in my car. It turns out the book recycles a lot of technical information about the car and its various systems (engine, electrical, lubrication, etc., available probably through the user's manual or books on the history of the Benz). There is little useful information or tips beyond that. My engine started overheating about 2 years ago and there is no information in the book on what the reasons may be and what steps to take. I also had my suspension changed recently, but it still feels a little rough; the book has no information of any reason why this is so, and what places to check.

The scope of the book seems to be aimed at the professional mechanic, but the level of details is very skimpy. If you are a weekend do-it-yourself and want to do your own maintenance on your Benz, this "bible" would be a very uninformative and incomplete guide indeed.

5good basic knowledge for the MB "E" series  Sep 09, 2008
this is not a manual for advanced repairs on your car, but it is a good source of information of the different areas of strenth and the less so. It shouldn't have been titled as a BIBLE because in that case it does fall very short of the target.

5A msut have W124 book  Jul 25, 2008
This is a must have Mercedes W124 chassis publication. A buyer's guide, a maintenance and a repair book with tons of photos and a very concise text.

3Great Before you Buy purchase, pretty good after  Feb 19, 2008
I bought this book because the owner's manual in my '95 E320 had gone missing with the previous owner, and I wanted to know what all the buttons did. This book will not tell you. It's even a little coy and taunty about it - it gives you hints. But, it is NOT a replacement for the owner's manual. About a third of the book is reasonably useless once you've purchased a used Benz, unless you just enjoy reading about the history of your car. Which I did. And it won't really help you if something seriously goes wrong. But, it's a nice middle of the road book, especially if you still have the owner's manual, and you don't intend on replacing the radiator, but want to know that, around 125,000 miles, someone probably should.

5Great Resource for fans of the 124  Sep 14, 2007
Great starting point for educating yourself on the 124 chassis benz. Probably won't contain enough DIY info for some, but as a starting point, Stu Ritter's book can't be beat.
